Question: Is this bed large enough for a golden retriever weighing 70 lbs?

Answer: Yes, my Basset Hound is pushing 70 & it's fine. Pretty large bed!!! 
 

Question: Are the beds "couch arms" machine washable? I've had dog beds in the past that everything is except that and it's a pain.

Answer: Yes the cushion comes out & you can wash the cover. It is also not difficult to put back together. 
 

Question: My dog scratches/digs at his beds--does the cover to this bed stand up to abuse, or will it rip easily?

Answer: I don't think it would rip easily. It is great material and seems pretty strong.
